Art Club at JMHS

The Monroe Arts Alliance is providing start-up support, for the acquisition of art supplies, to the new Art Club at James Monroe High School.

This mini-grant assists in covering expenses for materials, publicity and $100 toward a show award in the name of the Monroe Arts Alliance. The 2010 show was on exhibit June 4-25.

June 26, 2010: Open House Features Arts Opportunities

The Monroe Arts Alliance held an Open House and Reception on Saturday, June 26th, 2010 at Cook's Old Mill in Greenville, WV. If you missed this enjoyable event, we'd still welcome your participation in our projects. Call 304-772-4568 for more information.

Spring 2010: "Classical Mythology"

Another offering in our series of university lectures began on April 8, 2010. The DVDs for "Classical Mythology" by Professor Elizabeth Vandiver of the University of Maryland may still be viewed or borrowed from the Monroe County Library.

The Great Courses format presents two half-hour lectures in the evening with an opportunity to discuss the subject afterward. It is a relaxing and informal way to broaden knowledge and understanding in a variety of subject areas. To date, the Arts Alliance and the Library have also offered "Questions of Value," an ethics course; "Masterpieces of the Louvre," and "From Monet to Van Gogh: A History of Impressionism," as well as the DVD "West Virginia: A History." Suggestions for future subjects are welcome. The courses that have been completed are available for circulation at the library.

May 7, 2010: Evolver

"Evolver", an ensemble led by saxaphonist Birch Graves of Sinks Grove, performs with vocalist Diana Proud on Friday, May 7th, 7:30 pm at Ames Clair Hall in Union.  details
