Scholarship in the Arts Awarded to Elizabeth Wickline
The Monroe Arts Alliance has awarded a $500 scholarship to Elizabeth Wickline of Union, WV, to continue study in the arts at the college or university of her choice.
Wickline, who graduates from James Monroe High School this May, has been accepted to the University of Charleston West Virginia, and will major in pharmacology while minoring in the visual arts. The scholarship award was prompted by Wickline's high school art teacher, Lucy Taylor, who applied to the Arts Alliance Mini-Grant Program on behalf of her student. She cited Elizabeth's talent for photography, painting and interior design. "Art will always be a part of this girl's life," Taylor wrote. "It's in her. Monroe County could use more professionals with a passion for the arts!"
The scholarship was presented at the James Monroe High School's Awards Assembly on May 23rd.
The Arts Alliance Mini-Grant Program accepts requests in amounts up to $500 for arts-related activities and initiatives from individuals or groups. The senior scholarship award in the arts is open to students of music, visual arts or creative writing, but must be requested by a teacher or mentor of the student. Awards are made based on the quality of the application and funds available. Find more information and application forms at this website, or call 304-772-4568.
