"Monroe County Tales" Have Been Reprinted

bound copies of
Monroe County Tales, Volumes I and II Monroe County Tales, Volumes I and II, have been reprinted in limited quantities after repeated requests from buyers. The small, hand-crafted books contain stories by Monroe County authors who were winners in the Monroe Arts Alliance's Writing Contests in 2011 and 2012. Many of the stories offer glimpses into Monroe County's rich heritage, while others give insight into the places, people, and events of the area. Artwork by local artists illustrate several of the stories.

The first volume sold out rapidly in 2011, and, as the second volume became available, buyers expressed interest in having both books. The original printing of Volume II also sold out quickly after going on sale in June of this year. In order to accommodate those interested in having the books as collector's items or as gifts to friends and family, these second printings will be available for the upcoming holiday season.

Both volumes will be on sale at the Monroe County (Union) and Peterstown libraries after November 15th. The books are priced at $5.00 plus s/h, and all proceeds benefit the Monroe Arts Alliance.

The third annual Writing Contest will take place at the beginning of 2013. Look for more information in January. "We encourage everyone with a story to tell to participate," says Judith Bair, director of the Arts Alliance. "There are several categories that cover a wide variety of interests, including Life Stories, Fiction, Nature/Our Environment and History/Landmarks. Each year we have a special category for seniors, and next year's theme will be 'My Favorite Year.' There are cash prizes as well as the opportunity to be published in our next volume of Monroe County Tales."
